Literature Review for TMIS - 15/10/2008

Hey Guys,

I am currently working my literate review on which I will have to look at the trends that are going on concerning transport

management around the world

Here are some key points I am considering and focusing on:

  1. Efficiency in Routing Technology

  2. How many persons are disabled around the world

  3. Why disabled persons lose out

    1. Unable to travel

    2. Less persons able to work

    1. Less productivity

    1. Less economic growth

    1. Less GDP

  4. Transport in a local context

    1. Levels of satisfaction with services

    2. How do disabled persons access travel information

    1. Current and future sources of information

  5. What are the benefits to disabled persons?

  6. What hardware and software are being used in transport management

  7. What's going on with the economies around the world with developing countries?

  8. What are the strategies being used by the various countries? Intelligent Transport Systems
    1. Urban Development

    2. Parking Management, including permits and enforcement

    1. Community participation and involvement

    1. Alternative transport modes and travel demands Management.

  1. I've realized that statistics on the Caribbean is really hard to come by as these data are not collected, where the economy is concerned.

  2. What is being used in the Caribbean? And what is best suited for us?

  3. How to I drill down from the Developing countries of the world to Trinidad and Tobago?

  4. Pollution – France "Green" project

  5. Infrastructure for disabled persons

  6. Policies and legislation

  7. Persons need to be sensitized towards the disabled persons…

  8. What can be done in Trinidad and Tobago to rectify the issue of congestion, air pollution, noise pollution etc?

  9. Private sector participation

Final Year Project Adjustments

Hi Guys,

I have spent alot of time thinking of developed countries with transport "crises" that would have

implemented a Transport Management System, however, I've realised that many of these

"crises" were not due to poor scheduling or routing decisions.

In fact, it was due to regulatory concerns or dealing with a growing number of city population

that these Transport Management Systems were built. As well as more and more business

opening outside of the city.

So i'm really having a hard time finding a country that had such problems.

Apart from that, my idea is very new and has never been accomplished, therefore that problem

that it is trying to solve would be from two point of views:

1. Taxi Mgm't would be able to determine how many cars they need on the road at night at any

particular hour.

2. Able and disabled persons can book a taxi from the Internet or from their mobile phone.

So, let me know what you think,

Cheers!

Final Project Adjustments

Hey Guys,

I have decided that I will carry on with the idea of a Taxi Service as any information on Ambulance

routing maybe difficult to get as it's quite sensitive.

- I'm currently doing an investigation into the psychological effects of being late for anything from

a performance to frustration and traffic woes.

- I'm also currently researching the objectives and activities that are involved in the

development of the project

Final Year Project

Hey Guys,

Welcome to my Blog!

I trust that your visit would be worthwhile,

I'm currently completing my Bsc. (Hons) Computing and created this blog for the sole purpose of discussing my final project ideas.

The Project Selection is based on a Dispatch/Routing System for the Taxi/Ambulance Services with the goal of easing traffic congestion.

The Area of study would be Transportation - Management.

I would like to design a system in such a ways that the routing of taxis would be a the preferred choice of commuting for pedestrians.

For e.g In the Philippines, with the controlled and unified dispatch of some 3,000 buses plying 25 routes in northern and southern Metro Manila, traffic woes

are significantly lower.

But at then end of the day, if there alot more buses on the road, with the same system in place, then we're back to square one...so....

my aim to to propose a Technological solution to Transport Management problem.

Ideas I'm playing around with:

  1. sms based sms to taxi driver - to customer - to device
  2. request by text or email
  3. monitoring centre..response, sms and email
  4. T22....rename to what ever vehicle you would like
  5. put a geo site on customer end
  6. give the cus the ability to find out how far taxi is away
  7. get lat and long from google...send message to device....then alert sub via script
  8. s/w integration wth google earth
  9. use mobile phone to communicate with device
  10. T22 - one output
